BYLAWS
ARTICLE I
Membership
SECTION I
1. Regular members of the chapter must meet the criteria for student member of the society by being registered for at least twelve (12) credit hours work toward a degree in Engineering Management, Engineering, or Business Administration.
2. The membership may by majority vote, elect other persons to associate or honorary membership in the Chapter.
3. A member may be dropped from the chapter for non payment of dues or for conduct which in any way tends to injure the chapter. No member may be dropped without an opportunity to be heard by the officers of the Chapter.
4. A member of the national society will be selected by the Chapter as a faculty advisor.
5. The membership year shall start at the same time as the normal academic year of the university and shall extend for 12 months.
SECTION II
1. The regular annual dues for the Chapter shall be determined at the beginning of each academic year by the Chapter officers and the faculty advisor.
2. Chapter membership shall be authorized to suggest a voluntary contribution to the chapter treasury beyond the amount collected as Chapter dues. This amount shall be given directly to the chapter treasury for use by the Chapter.
Meetings
SECTION I
At least one meeting prior to the scheduled election meeting, the president shall open the floor for nominations of officers. The secretary will record these nominations on the official minutes of the meeting.
SECTION II
At the annual election meeting additional nominations will be accepted from the floor and included on the ballot.
SECTION III
The Chapter shall hold regular monthly meetings during the school year; the exact date will be determined and posted by the officers at least ten (10) days before the meeting.
Elections
SECTION I
Elections shall be held in September.
SECTION II
New officers shall take office at the time they are elected and will hold that office until the next scheduled election.
SECTION III
Special meetings will be called to elect new officers to fill any vacancies which may occur, provided that written notice of this meeting, its purpose and office to be filled, have been posted at least ten (10) days prior to the date of such a meeting.
SECTION IV
No student shall be elected to office if he or she will graduate before completing at least one half year in office.
SECTION V
No officer shall hold a particular office for more than one year.
SECTION VI
A majority vote of all members present shall be necessary to elect an officer.
SECTION VII
All elections shall be determined by a show of hands. Impeachment of any officer may be accomplished only upon presentation of just and reasonable cause for such action to the faculty advisor of the Chapter and upon his approval with three-fourths vote of all enrolled members of the University Chapter.
SECTION VIII
Upon assuming any elected office, each officer must accept an oath of office as prescribed by the Chapter.
Activities
SECTION I
Activity topics will be discussed during the meetings.
SECTION II
Activities include but are not limited to:
1. Having guest speakers.
2. Conducting trips to engineering related organizations.
3. Attending National Conferences.
Duties of the Officers
SECTION I
The president, as chief executive of the Chapter, shall supervise the Chapter's affairs and activities. He is the executive administrative presiding and reporting officer. He shall be responsible for the public relations, publicity and promotion of the Chapter's activities. He will work directly with the faculty Advisor.
SECTION II
The vice-president shall preside at meetings in the absence or death of the president, and will also assist the President in all of his duties.
SECTION III
The secretary shall be responsible for keeping a permanent record of all meetings, and relevant information discussed through the course of meetings.
SECTION IV
The treasurer shall be responsible for the financial records of the Chapter, disburse funds at the direction of the executive council and report it in detail when requested by the membership. Remaining funds at the end of the academic year shall be carried over to the following year. Income will be received through membership dues, and income-producing functions approved by the membership and the faculty advisor.
Amendments
Section I
These Bylaws may be amended by a three-fourths vote of the members present at any regularly or special meeting, provided that written notice of the amendments has been posted at least ten (10) days prior to the date of the meeting. Upon passage, an amendment becomes effective immediately.
