Course Goals and Objectives:

• SERVICE LEARNING
  
  
• Contribute technology-based service hours (7) to the community partner of your choice.
• Learn, and make, the distinction between service and service-learning.
  
  
• TECHNOLOGY, ETHICS and SOCIETY
  
  
• Identify and examine the ethical considerations relevant to both users and purveyors of technology, at the individual and societal levels.
• Explore the theme, "Ubiquitous Computing:  Nirvana or Nemesis".
  

• PERSONAL REFLECTION and GROWTH
  
  
• Keep a hand-written journal of guided activities (reflection, interviews, conclusions, etc.).
• Develop increasing awareness of, and sensitivity to, the ways in which different individuals and groups respond to technology.

Ethical Expectations: You are honor-bound by UVM's Code of Academic Integrity not to collaborate in any way on assignments and projects, other than as indicated by the instructor.   Anyone violating this code will receive a zero on their work, and will be reported to the Center for Student Ethics & Standards.  You also run the risk of receiving an XF ("failure resulting from academic dishonesty") in the course (this does not look pretty on your transcript).  If you are unsure about a specific situation, please feel free to ask the instructor.
