Winter Sportec - A New Winter Sports Challenge!

WCAX news video 2008

Snow and ice mean play – slide, glide, spin, carve, jump, schuss, throw, or just lie down and make snow angels! Runners, tubes, skis, boards, bindings, sticks, blades, garbage can lids, saucers: these are slick or simple technologies that create winter play.

The University of Vermont (UVM) College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) challenges anyone interested to invent a device, product or piece of equipment that can improve on the way usual winter sports are done, or open a new sport to new players, and make it possible for a whole new way of playing outdoors to be seen. This sport can be for an individual or for a team, for snow or ice, for flat or sloped terrain, or for competitive or relaxed play. Winter Sportec provides you with a creative challenge and has aligned with the Northeast Disabled Athletic Association (NDAA), a public charity working to enhance opportunities and provide support for individuals with physical challenges who wish to participate in recreational and competitive athletics.

Teams or individuals will exhibit their Winter Sportec Projects on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the University Mall in South Burlington. Teams will bring created devices, a poster display and video footage of their creation to compete for recognition in the following categories:
