The School of Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical Engineering at the Assistant Professor level for a Fall 2014 start date. Candidates are expected to hold a baccalaureate degree and a doctorate in mechanical engineering or a closely related engineering field.
The School is seeking outstanding individuals whose research focus lies in advanced materials and manufacturing processes, and/or robotics. Examples of desired areas of expertise include, but are not limited to: Smart materials, modern manufacturing and design, scalable nanomanufacturing, computational modeling of manufacturing processes, associated control systems and optimization, autonomous vehicles and spacecraft, prosthetic rehabilitation and technology. The new faculty member is expected to maintain an active program of externally-funded research and graduate student advising, and contribute broadly to undergraduate and graduate teaching within the mechanical engineering program in several of the following areas: Dynamics, materials engineering, modern manufacturing processes, mechatronics, control systems, and engineering design.
Interdisciplinary research collaborations will be valued. Significant opportunities for collaboration exist with other academic units across campus, including: Mathematics & Statistics, Computer Science, the College of Medicine, the Materials Science Program, the Bioengineering Program, the School of Business Administration, UVM's Smart Grid IGERT, Complex System Center, and the UVM Transportation Research Center. High-performance computing facilities are available to researchers within the Vermont Advanced Computing Core. In recent years, the School has seen significant growth in undergraduate and graduate student enrollment and research funding.
